  • What the application accomplishes.
    1. Allows companies, institutes, agencies, etc. to post private information on a publically accessible web site, that is protected with (KetuFile) strong/AES (U.S. Government standard) encryption.
    2. Information can be text, word processor, spreadsheet, executables, images, e.g. photographs, xrays, etc.
    3. Allows authorized Users, Customers, Patients, etc. to access this information from their personal computers.
    4. Accomplishes this at a very low, per-User cost.
    5. Accomplishes this with easy-to-use decryption software that can be downloaded (free)or can be provided with very low cost CDs that run automatically when the User's insert the CD into their PCs.

  • How the professional IT Staff at the companies, institutes, agencies, etc. proceed to make this available - a brief summary.
    1. IT Staff procure KetuFile licenses.
    2. IT Staff encrypt the User's files with a unique Key for each User, and use the Key nickname of 'mykey'.
    3. IT Staff place the User's encrypted files in a directory on the web server of company/agency, etc.
    4. IT Staff convey the Key to the User by some secure means, e.g. U.S. Mail, telephone, courier, personal contact, etc.
    5. IT Staff give User instructions for downloading and installing the free KetuFile decryptor or,
    6. IT Staff give User's a very low cost CD to allow them to install KetuFile from the CD.
    7. IT Staff instruct the User to run KetuFile and type in and save their Key under the nickname of 'mykey'.
    8. IT Staff give User instructions on how to navigate their browsers (Internet Explorer, Navigator, Mozilla, etc.) to their Internet Web server-directory that the IT Staff set up for for that particular User.
    9. IT Staff instruct the User on how to download their files from their browser to some folder/directory/desktop on their PC.
    10. IT Staff, once the files are downloaded, instruct the Users to double click on their files to decrypt them.
      • The Windows operating system will run KetuFile.
      • Windows will send the file name and location (folder) to KetuFile.
      • KetuFile will run and load the file-to-be-decrypted.
      • KetuFile will read the encrypted file's header and see that there is a nickname of 'mykey'.
      • KetuFile will read the Key from the User's hard disk.
      • KetuFile will tell the User that it is prepared to decrypt with the Key saved with nickname 'mykey' and ask the User for permission to proceed.
    11. Once the file has been decrypted, the User can click on 'Run Decrypted File' and KetuFile will instruct the Windows operating system to 'run' this file.
    12. Examples of what User will see after clicking: 'Run Decrypted File'
      • If the file is an Excel spreadsheet and Microsoft Excel has been previously installed on PC then the User will see the file in Excel.
      • If the file is an image file, such as a jpg file, then Windows will run an image rendering program such as 'Wang Imaging' or 'Internet Explorer'.

    1. The KetuFile program is designed to run with the various Windows(tm) professional operating systems, including NT, Win2K, XPpro. In addition KetuFile has been tested with the so-called 'home' operating systems including: Win95 (only with long filename support), Win98, WinME, XPhome.
    2. Download the KetuFile application program here:

    3. Perform a normal Windows(tm) installation of KetuFile onto your PC. This will allow you to double click on a file with ktu extension and automatically cause the KetuFile program to be run.
    4. When KetuFile is installed, run KetuFile.
    5. Click on the Button that says 'Key'
      This will take you to a new Dialog box.
    6. In the top-most text box (Manual Entry Of Key) enter the number:
      1
    7. In the lower-most, right-most text box (Manual Entry Of Key) enter the letters:
      mykey
    8. Click the lower-most, right-most Button (Save Key As)
      Now the key has been saved to your hard disk, with Nickname of mykey
    9. Now Click the Okay button. You will go back to the main KetuFile Dialog box.
    10. Now Click the Quit Program button.
    11. Now back to your Internet Explorer.
    12. Use your browser (Internet Explorer, etc.) and navigate to the following page on the KetuFile.com site:

    13. Download one of the files. NOTE: With some browsers, you may need to right-click to start the download process. Please note where on your PC (which folder, desktop, etc.) you are placing this file that you are downloading. Also, make sure that your browser has not changed the extension of the file. It should be ktu. If it is not, then chnage it to ktu
    14. Once the file is downloaded to your PC's hard disk, double click on that file.
    15. KetuFile will be run by Windows.
    16. KetuFile will find the Key
    17. KetuFile will ask your for permission to proceed. Follow its instructions and proceed with decryption of the file.
    18. Status of the decryption process is at the bottom of the KetuFile main Dialog box.
    19. Once decryption is complete, Click the button that says:
      Run Decrypted File
    20. You will now see the file rendered as an image by the image viewing application program for you particular installation of Windows.
